TÜBİTAK MAM founded the Energy Systems Department in 1992. The department was joined with the Environmental Engineering Department to form the Energy Systems and Environmental Research Institute (ESÇAE) in February 1996. For 6 years, these two strategic business units conducted several important projects, developed their infrastructure and expanded their knowledge base, experience, network and assessment & evaluation capacity at an international level in the fields of energy and environment under the same institute.

TÜBİTAK Science Committee made a decision to establish Vice Presidency of Energy Technologies on 3 October 2004 and to place the Energy Technologies Strategic Business Unit (ESAÇE) under this new institute.

Vice Presidency of Energy Technologies performs its research and development activities with two teams one in Gebze and one in Ankara.

The mission of the institute is to be a leading and competent research center conducting applied research and development projects in energy technologies. Its vision is to conduct researches and developments in energy technologies with contemporary information and technological methods, in line with the sustainable development goals of Turkey.

The institute aims to lead the development of energy technologies domestically in parallel with Turkey’s development goals for 2023 and to develop projects for these goals.

Vice Presidency of Energy Technologies cooperates with the other units of Marmara Research Center and TÜBİTAK and with domestic and foreign organizations conducting energy researches and applications in order to continuously improve the infrastructure and project development potentials in these fields.
