Energetic Materials

-A +A

Energetic Materials Research Group, considering the interests of Türkiye in defense industries at global level, implements projects aimed at producing new generation energetic materials that meet the national security requirements, with the the capabilities of the country. Our priority in all our research and development activities is the vision of having a national defense, aviation and space industry, which plays a leading role in the development of science and technology in Türkiye and whose contribution to social welfare is indisputable. In line with the goal of gaining competitive advantage in the world, Türkiye's capability to develop defense technologies is directly related to strategic R&D projects and competence of qualified laboratories.

The “Vision 2023” on Technology includes “Developing critical weapons, ammunition and protection systems and technologies” among the technological activities that should be prioritized within the scope of gaining capability to develop Defense Technologies. Considering the geographical location of the country, it is imperative to develop our technological capabilities in the field of ammunition technologies due to the latest military developments in the region.

In line with this goal, TÜBİTAK MAM National Energetic Materials Synthesis and Characterization Laboratory was established in TÜBİTAK MAM Gebze Campus to make it possible to develop production processes for energetic materials, which are used in ammunition and imported from foreign countries, so that they can be domestically produced in Türkiye, and to conduct studies to achieve conformity with international standards.

As the vision of being a self-sufficient country in the Defense Industry and space technologies require, the working areas of the Energetic Materials Research Group are as follows:

  • Development of production processes for high-energy chemicals subject to the Missile Technology Control Regime,
  • Chemical and physical characterization of high-energy chemicals,
  • Synthesis and characterization of original high-energy chemicals,
  • Establishment of pilot-scale production facilities of new generation, high-energy chemicals.
